genre convention Dark Knight

Image
The Dark Knight   - A common camera angle used is a close-up. Close-ups like in the scene where the joker is being interrogated, or when the detective is leaving the room. This shows emotion is the charcters. Another common angle used is the dutch tilt. This creates a sense of uneasiness for the audience and foreshadows to what might happen next. Over the shoulders, shots are commonly used to. They show equality between the character, adn even though they are fighting, they are equal to each other. The lighting used is dark, creating a menacing and dangerous mood symbolizing the jokers character to the audience. Batman was dressed in his superhero coastume which is all black to create fear, adn whn he was not wearing his batman costume, he was wearing a dark suit, to still keep the dar mood. The dark mood was also elevated by the setting. Low, dark lights and rain were added to the scenery of a tall city. The acting was very serious as comomn for the genre. Props used were weapons, &q

genre convention shutter island

Image
For the thriller genre option, Shutter Island uses extremely wide shots to show where the film is taking place. They use wide shots to show multiple people walking at a certain time. The mid shot shows the character looking directly at you. The high angle shows them walking through the rain. The low level shows the contrast between the colors. Leonardo DiCaprio dresses in a detective outfit containing a trench coat and a tie. In this movie, Scorsese uses  the dark lighting  in the scene to symbolize the characters. The makeup in the film shutter island is mainly used to emphasize the expressions on their face.  Major  props  to films that still use miniature models like this rather than purely CGI it up. It's noticeably in higher quality most of the time.  The setting for shutter Island is mainly set in  building ward C . There are three main blocks of the hospital. building 1 which is for the men, 2 which is for the women, and C which is for the very important patients who need t

genre convention John wick

Image
For the thriller genre option, John Wick used many extreme close-ups. Entering onto the face of the protagonist for suspense purposes. John Wick also used action shots. That is the main premise of the fighting and violence within the movie. Combining this with tracking shots. Whenever John Wick was running the camera would follow him in a eye-level tracking shot. The costumes matched traditional thriller costumes. John Wick dresses in a slick and well fit suit. Along with his enemies dressing the same. The men in suits and the women in dresses. The movie used low light. Very dark settings. As well as the use of rain. To create a somber mood.  We really liked the low light. Whenever movies like The Lighthouse use low light, that is very interesting. In our opinion movies that require serious, dark acting, should be usually shot in low light. For some reason we could never imagine a comedy or romance movie shot in low light. It would seem out of the box. Maybe a Woody Allen movie.  Som

Genre Decision

Image
My group decided to go with the thriller genre. This was for many reasons. One of which being that we enjoy this genre the most. It is very importatn that you enjoy what oyu are creating so that the product can be as authentic as possible. Another reason was that it is harder to devolop a plot line , or the begining of one, in just two minutes in a genre like comedy or drama, which will gnerally have a longer exposition. We believe that choosing the thriller genre will increase our intrest in the project, henceforth leading to a better overall result. We already have many  ideas in mind. Incuding where we will shoot it. The music we will use. And even how we will edit it. Choosing the thriller blog we can do all the things we want to. One thing that we espically enjoyed about the genre as a group is the costumes. With a conventional thriller you can have a little more fun in terms of the costume and make up. You get the oppertunity to think more outside the box. As well as have more
